Led by Bob Kieckhefer

Enjoy a refreshing morning cycling adventure through some of Chiang Mai’s most scenic and historic landmarks.
The journey from The Clover Hotel to Huay Tung Tao Reservoir covers approximately 7.0 km. The first 4.7 km follows a dedicated bicycle path, offering a smooth and leisurely ride, before continuing along a quiet paved road with a few gentle, low-gradient hills.
Upon arrival, we will cycle the 3.7 km loop around the reservoir, surrounded by beautiful mountain views and tranquil countryside scenery. Along the way, we will stop to visit the impressive Buddha statues and the iconic King Kong sculptures, providing excellent opportunities for photos and relaxation.
On the return journey, we will explore the 700th Anniversary Sports Complex, a landmark built for the 1995 Southeast Asian Games. Home to eight sporting venues—including a football stadium, swimming and diving facilities, tennis courts, and more—the complex remains an important center for sports and recreation, with many facilities open to the public.
The complex commemorates the 700th anniversary of Chiang Mai’s founding by King Mangrai, founder of the Lan Na Kingdom, in approximately 1295. Throughout the tour, guests will enjoy a unique blend of nature, culture, history, and light exercise, making for a memorable Chiang Mai experience.
Bob Kieckhefer is a retired geophysicist who has called Chiang Mai home for more than a decade. An avid cyclist and explorer, he has traveled extensively throughout Thailand and neighboring countries by bicycle, combining his passion for adventure with a deep appreciation for the region’s landscapes and cultures.
Among his most remarkable journeys are a 5,000-kilometer ride from Hà Nội to Singapore and an 11,000-kilometer expedition from Cairo to Cape Town. These experiences have given him a wealth of stories and insights to share along the way.
When he is not cycling, Bob enjoys discussing the fascinating geology of Northern Thailand, offering guests a unique perspective on the natural history and formation of the region’s mountains, valleys, and landscapes.
